Rare find, a porcelain shaving mug, probably produced in
the 1840`s for a ship captain`s use at sea.The ship`s
name is emblazoned in gold on a banner over a hand
painted drawing of a two masted schooner at sea with two
smaller ships near by on the left and right side. The base
of the mug is weighted and shaped to fit into a ship`s
gimbal to prevent breakage while under way. No
manufacturer`s markings. Sold "as found " there is a fine
hairline crack in the handle. The illustration is exceptionally
well done by hand and fired under the glaze.
